True Monsoon Retreat designed in response to site conditions: evergreen courtyards, skylights blur the indoor-outdoor boundaries.
Set in the picturesque hills of Khandala, just outside Mumbai, this villa is part of a gated community of 21 second homes with a community centre designed on a water bed, giving it a resort feel. These are signature spacious villas with private swimming pools and evergreen gardens
Alan Abraham from Abraham John Architects was commissioned to create home away from home with a sense of open space and privacy. An elegant, enduring and green design where landscaping & lightning make a difference.
The dining room suspends over the private pool, giving the room an island-like feel. The tree in the dining area adds an element of surprise. It becomes and exotic “outdoor” space where one can enjoy the proximity to the water and the greenery.
This is an ideal monsoon retreat in the hills. The villa is designed in response to site conditions. Sloping roof have been designed to withstand the extreme monsoons rains experiences in the area.
The house allows one to experience nature. The indoor/outdoor boundaries disappear as every room opens up to a private space (terrace or gardens). Outdoor decks and landscaped gardens serve as expansive entertaining areas with artful illumination and mood lighting.
Indoor courtyards, skylights double height sliding folding windows add to the outdoor feel. The carefully chosen, limited palette of materials ensure consistency in design, minimizes maintenance and encourages sustainability.
